The Rage Contagion

John Wood, Founder of Rageheart

by John Wood

The more dysregulated we are in our nervous systems, the more we operate from a place of fear, anger, shame and self-doubt 😱

The more we operate from a place of fear, anger, shame and self-doubt, the more we behave in ways that cause others to operate from a place of fear, anger, shame and self-doubt, perpetuating the vicious cycle of nervous system dysregulation.

For example, if you snap at your kids (or your wife, partner or friends) because you’re feeling anxious or irritable today, you’ll often trigger a similar response in them.

They’ll then feel anxious, irritated or something along those lines and then they’ll say or do something to trigger the same response in someone else.

Why would you ever want to make this little guy mad? He’s so cute 😍

So the cycle goes 🤷‍♂️

On the other hand, the more regulated we are in our nervous systems, the more we operate from a place of true confidence, peace, healthy aggression and compassion.

And the more we operate from a place of true confidence, peace, healthy aggression and compassion, the more we behave in ways that cause others to operate from a place of true confidence, peace, healthy aggression and compassion.

For example, if instead of snapping at your kids (or your wife, partner or friends), you’re so calm that they can coregulate to you, that means that…

Instead of a vicious cycle of nervous system dysregulation, we end up in a virtuous cycle of nervous system regulation, making the world a better place simply by doing our own work of healing 😍🎉

This is why I’m such a big believer in Rageheart, the nervous system approach to healing and all the tools inside The Rageheart Academy.

Because if we don’t heal ourselves, we hurt other people…

…but if we do, we heal the world.

Or as Peter Levine says, best-selling author of Waking The Tiger:

“True human enlightenment will only happen when each and every single person on the planet has learned how to regulate their very own nervous system.”

Happy Friday,

John Wood

P.S. Know anyone who is caught up in the vicious cycle of dysregulation?

Refer them to The Daily Growl (this email newsletter) and give them way to escape that vicious cycle and get into the virtuous cycle of regulation.
