How To Weather ANY Storm

how to weather any storm

Imagine a tree 🌳

Now imagine some wind.

The wind blows but the tree – if it’s a strong tree – stays put.

Clouds come and the wind picks up…

…but the tree stays put.

Rain falls…

…but the tree stays put.

Thunder, lightning and snow assault the tree, blanket the ground and threaten to split the tree in half…

…but the tree stays put.

Rain, hail or shine…

…the tree stays put.

It’s strong and resilient but also flexible.

It can bend without breaking and withstand anything that the weather throws at it (again – if it’s a strong tree).

Now imagine a weak tree.

The wind blows and the tree’s branches break.

The wind picks up and the tree starts to come out of the ground.

When the storm arrives, it’s all but finished.

The tree gets ripped out of the ground and blows away with the wind, rain and snow.

Now think about yourself.

Are you a weak tree or a strong tree?

When the winds of fear kick up, what happens?

When the storm of self-doubt crashes, how do you react?

When the blizzard of shame blankets you, what do you do?

Do you stay put like the strong tree?

Or do you get ripped out of the ground and pulled into the storm?

When tree meets storm, who wins?

The tree?

Or the storm?

Are you bigger than the storm?

Flexible and yet sturdy?

Resilient and yet available to the wind?

Or does the storm push you around and carry you along with it?

Do you try to control the wind and the storm?

Do you try to blow it away with alcohol, porn or sugar to force the storm to clear so it’s a bright sunny day?

Or do you patiently allow the storm and the wind and the rain to do whatever they need to do?

You can wish for clear skies all you want but hey, shit happens and life does what it does.

Or you can pray for the strength and the fortitude to weather ANY storm.

Remember that time JFK quoted Reverend Phillips Brooks?

Do not pray for easy lives. Pray to be stronger people! Do not pray for tasks equal to your powers. Pray for powers equal to your tasks.

Well, if you’re looking for an easy life, you’ll need to look elsewhere because that’s not what we do here at Rageheart.

But if you want to be a stronger person or a stronger tree… if you want powers equal to your tasks… if you want rock-solid resilience and the ability to weather any storm of fear, doubt, shame or imposter syndrome…

…I know of no better way to do that than nervous system work. Get into your body. Learn about your nervous system. Know how to stay strong, grounded and regulated as you ride the tsunami wave of sensation, emotion and negativity.
