Having Sex vs Giving Birth

John Wood, Founder of Rageheart

by John Wood

Having sex is (usually) fun 🍆🍑

…while giving birth is messy, painful and uncomfortable (even if you eventually wind up telling people that it’s “the best thing that ever happened to you”).

Most (all?) things are like this.

For example, take Spanish.

Signing up to a Spanish course or getting a lesson or watching a random YouTube video is like having sex. It’s the easy part. The fun part. The pleasurable part.

But sticking with it long-term, months or years after the novelty has worn off (until you’re actually fluent), that’s more like giving birth.

It’s just like learning Spanish 🤣😍

Think about it…

You’re giving birth to a new ability (Spanish fluency).

Same for musical instruments and singing.

Picking up a guitar or sitting down at the piano for the first time is like having sex 🎸

…while practicing consistently for 10 years is like giving birth. It’s messy, painful and uncomfortable, just like giving birth.

See what I mean?

Everything’s like this.

Even Rageheart and nervous system healing.

Signing up to The Daily Growl (this email newsletter) or The Rageheart Academy is like having sex. It’s fun, exciting and even pleasurable.

But sticking with it long after the novelty has worn off is much more like giving birth. It might feel boring, pointless and as if nothing is happening… but if you stick with it, you’ll give birth to an entirely new way of being. A new you. An upgraded you.

I LOVE this mindset because it reminds me that it’s ok for things to be messy, painful and uncomfortable. In fact, it’s par for the course.

Giving birth to a new child is messy, painful and uncomfortable and yet how many people say that it’s the best thing that ever happened to them?

If giving birth is like that – horrendously painful and yet simultaneously the BEST thing that ever happens to you – then why can’t learning Spanish, the guitar or how to regulate your nervous system and unleash the beast inside you be the same way?

Or put another way…

Breakdown to breakthrough đŸ’Ş

Cheers,

John Wood

P.S. Know anyone who needs to be reminded that it’s ok for things to be messy, uncomfortable and painful?

And that despite the pain, whatever they’re going through could be the BEST thing that ever happened to them?

Refer them to The Daily Growl (this email newsletter) and give them better tools and perspectives for unlocking the potential that’s inside them (using the power of the nervous system approach to healing).

Share a link to the homepage on Facebook, Twinstagram and PlentyOfOkTinder… but maybe don’t tattoo it on your forehead because it might not fit 🤷‍♂️
