you can’t rush your healing

Here he comes!

Kano. The regal, kingly dog.

He sprints for the back door as I stand by it, ready to open it when he gets close.

Then…

BANG!

Poor Kano 🥲

I can’t find any good pictures of Kano so this picture of a puppy will have to do.

Instead of sprinting out the back door, he sprints INTO the back door.

In slo-mo, I might add. Just like the movies. With the deep, slo-mo voice of me, saying “NooOooOooOOOoooooo…” while reaching to stop him but failing miserably.

But hey, I guess that’s what happens when you rush 🤷‍♂️

Maybe I need to put up a billboard in our living room like the Aussie billboards that say Hey Kano! Speed Kills?

Thankfully, Kano wasn’t too banged up by his fight with the back door. Like most dogs, he got up and ran straight out as if he hadn’t just had a head-on collision with a rock-hard hinged wooden barrier.

Tough dog, that one.

Unfortunately, that’s not how it works with Rageheart and the nervous system.

While doing too much won’t kill you, it might knock you around more than you expect.

I remember when I first got into this nervous system work, I did a little too much.

What happened?

I ended up on the couch for A WEEK! I could barely think… let alone actually do anything. I was exhausted in a way that I’d never felt before. It was as if my entire body was a balloon that had popped.

I wish I could tell you that it only happened once. That I learned my lesson the first time.

But did I?

Of course not.

I ended up on the couch for a week… again.

And again.

And AGAIN 🤦‍♂️

This slows the healing process down and makes it wayyyyy harder than it needs to be.

That’s why I constantly tell people inside Rageheart to GO AT YOUR OWN PACE.

While the culture in the Western world tends to focus on doing as much as possible in as little time as possible, that doesn’t work when it comes to the nervous system.

As my teacher likes to say…

Go slow to go fast.

This isn’t just for Rageheart members.

This is for anyone who is using any of the techniques I talk about in these emails (The Daily Rage). Stuff like orienting, feeling the ground, seeing what’s around you and checking if it’s safe.

Simple tools, sure… but don’t make the same mistake I did and underestimate their power.

Take. Your. Time.

Anyway, rant over.

If you want to learn how to work with your nervous system in a healthy, SAFE way… so you can finally unleash the beast inside you without messing with any of the usual self-help bandaids (meditation, gratitude lists, etc)…

…sign up to Rageheart when it opens up in January.

In the meantime, if you want to learn more, keep reading these emails.
