How to stop getting manipulated by assholes

John Wood, Founder of Rageheart

by John Wood

I talk a lot about unleashing the beast here at Rageheart but itā€™s not what you might first think.

I donā€™t mean ā€œbeastā€ as in lots of money, muscles or Maseratis šŸŽļø

I mean ā€œbeastā€ in the sense that youā€™re completely in touch with your animal self.

The mind is a wonderful thing.

It gave us skyscrapers, cruise ships, Guns n’ Roses, comedians like Ricky Gervais and the Wheel of Time fantasy series.

But when thatā€™s all we are – when weā€™re only really aware of ourselves as a mind or thoughts – we miss out on a hell of a lot of what life is (and we make ourselves vulnerable to all kinds of weird shit).

For example, a few years back, I had a couple of ā€œfriendsā€ in Thailand that gave me a funny feeling šŸ¤¢

I say ā€œfriendsā€ because we used to get lunch together, spend time at their house and play hide nā€™ seek with their 3 kids.

Nonetheless, that funny feeling remained.

I couldnā€™t put my finger on it but it was there.

Just a subtle feeling that whispered to me that something was off with these 2 friends.

I ignored it.

A few months later, I paid these 2 friends $3k for a life coaching arrangement.

The result?

They turned out to be some of the most manipulative and abusive people Iā€™ve ever met šŸ¤¬

Somehow I knew itā€¦ long before I hired them.

Not in my mind.

I couldnā€™t put words to itā€¦ but my body knew.

That was the source of the ā€œfunny feelingā€.

I ignored it and it cost me.

It cost me a 4 year romantic relationship with the love of my life (I was starting to think about marriage and kidsā€¦) as well as 1-2 years to pick up the pieces and sort myself out afterwards šŸ˜°

All because I ignored what my body was telling me.

That was before I discovered the world of nervous system healing. The world of rewilding the nervous system. The world of unleashing the beast inside us.

Now that Iā€™m more in tune with my body and instincts (the beast), I donā€™t fall for that shit anymore šŸ’Ŗ

Iā€™ve since met similar people and when that funny feeling pops its head up, I pay attention.

It sounds simple – just pay attention to your gut instincts – and yet in many ways itā€™s absolutely not simple.

Maybe you can feel your gut impulses and instincts as clear as dayā€¦ but if not, you have some work to do (unless youā€™re happy getting manipulated and controlled by the people around you?) šŸ¤”

The key is to learn how to get out of your head and into your body. Out of thinking and into feeling. Because thatā€™s when those gut impulses and beastly instincts become as clear as day.

Hereā€™s how to do that:
