Don’t read the news 📰

John Wood, Founder of Rageheart

by John Wood

Continuing on from this week’s email on why conspiracy theories are a waste of time, energy and brain space…

Daily Beast subscriber Almog says:

Conspiracy theories are one thing but reading the news is honestly as bad and people have similarly stupid reasons to do it… And it’s meaningless and useless just like [conspiracy theories].

I agree 10000000000000000%… especially in the context of healing the nervous system and unleashing the beast.

I actually can’t remember the last time I read the news 🤯

I’ve probably read it a handful of times in the last 3 years.

Every time, it gives me a bad feeling in my stomach and sets my mind racing.

Don't Read The News
🤢

And for what?

Sure, it’s terrible that that bomb went off in that city or that Karen was murdered on the train at 2am or that Elon Musk destroyed Twitter…

…but why do I need to know about it?

Can I do anything about it?

No?

Then why do I need to know about it?

Am I any better at helping the world if I’m stressed out about some thing that happened in another country or city and that I have no ability to change?

Probably not.

In fact, I’ll probably be so caught up worrying about shit I can’t change that I’ll miss all the opportunities to make a difference that are right in front of me.

For example, if I read the news every day like most people, I’d end up with a lot less mental and emotional energy for Rageheart and making a positive impact in that direction.

That’s how I think about it anyway.

It’s a trade-off however you slice it.

Just make sure you pick the option you actually want:

Option 1: Stressed out for no reason and with no positive benefit

Option 2: Relaxed with lots of time and energy to make a positive impact in the world

If you’d rather relax and enjoy your life while making a positive impact instead of frittering away your precious time and energy on news that doesn’t matter, join me inside Rageheart:
