Are you mental?

John Wood, Founder of Rageheart

by John Wood

School is about thinking, writing, books and exams 👩‍🏫

We’re taught to give the “right” answer according to a teacher or a book… not to feel for the right answer.

Where is the class on trusting your gut instincts?

On emotional intelligence?

On how to regulate your fight-or-flight response?

All thinking. All mental.

Music, art and drama get a little closer to feeling and intuition… but still, they’re not about understanding and feeling your emotions either.

Sure, we can use music, art and drama to channel and express our emotions… but judging by the number of rockstars, celebrities and world-famous artists who end up dead due to drug abuse or suicide, it’s not the final answer to mental or emotional distress.

When we grow up, most of us become “knowledge workers”, paid for our knowledge. Our thoughts. Our ideas 🤓

By and large, our world is a thinking world.

A world of thoughts, stories and ideas.

A world of intellect.

No wonder most of us are stuck in our heads and can’t stop thinking 🤷‍♂️

And if we don’t like our thoughts or if we feel uncomfortable, we don’t know how to deal with it because no one ever showed us how.

Instead, society has developed endless solutions to not feel what we’re feeling.

Endless distractions… designed to help us escape our thoughts and feelings.

If only the world knew that there was a simple, effective solution to overthinking: Nervous system healing

This means understanding how your nervous system works. How it’s evolved to respond to threats and danger. How the fight-flight-freeze response works. How the system then finds safety and comes back to baseline.

It means using specific techniques and tools for moving through all the feeling states of our biology without resistance instead of distracting ourselves from what we feel.

THIS is what’s missing from modern society.

A widespread understanding of what the hell is actually going on with us.

Why do we feel the way that we do?

Why can’t we stop thinking?

Why do we worry so much?

Why can’t we sleep?

Why aren’t we happy?

That’s why I started Rageheart.

The nervous system approach to health, happiness and wholeness changed everything for me.

Maybe it’ll do the same for you?

P.S. Know anyone else who needs to learn to stop thinking and start feeling?

Refer them to The Daily Growl (this email newsletter) and give them better tools for getting out of their head and into their body.
